SMS Text Policies

1. Purpose of SMS Communication

We use text messaging to communicate:

  • Appointment confirmations and reminders
  • Scheduling updates
  • Check-in instructions
  • Pre/post-procedure instructions
  • General service notifications

We do not send Protected Health Information (PHI) via SMS unless specifically authorized by the patient.

2. How We Collect Consent

We only send text messages to individuals who have provided explicit consent. Consent may be collected:

  • Through our online forms with a checked consent box
  • During registration or communication within our secure patient portal
  • At the time of your appointment via verbal or written acknowledgment

Consent is never assumed or pre-checked and may be withdrawn at any time.

3. HIPAA Notice

While we limit SMS content to non-sensitive information, please be aware that text messaging is not a secure or encrypted method of communication. By opting in, you acknowledge and accept the risks of receiving unencrypted messages. If you prefer to avoid SMS communication, you may opt out at any time.

4. Opting Out

To stop receiving SMS messages, reply STOP to any message. You will receive a confirmation that you have been unsubscribed. You may also call our office directly to update your communication preferences.

5. Message Frequency & Charges

Message frequency varies based on your interactions with our practice, but generally does not exceed [insert, e.g., “4 messages per month”].

Standard message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier.

6. Privacy & Data Use
